Bio:

Dr. Peiyin Hung is an accomplished health services researcher specializing in rural health, maternal and child health, healthcare access, and health policy. Serving as Associate Professor and Co-Director of the University of South Carolina’s Rural Health Research Center, Dr. Hung integrates large-scale data analytics with community-informed approaches to address real-world challenges of healthcare delivery. She has led interdisciplinary team as Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI, and Co-Investigator on numerous federally and state-funded projects, including grant support from NIH, HRSA, AHRQ, CDC, and state health agencies. A prolific scholar, she has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and 30+ policy briefs, with her work featured in national media and cited in federal advisory efforts. Her contributions to the field have been recognized with prestigious honors, including the 2017 AcademyHealth Alice S. Hersh Scholarship, the 2021 Awardee from Delta Omega Honorary Society, 2023 Breakthrough Scholar from the University of South Carolina -Columbia, 2024 Leading Woman in Higher Education award from Diverse, the 2025 NRHA Outstanding Researcher of the Year award, and the 2025 Fierce 50 Health Equity Award. Beyond her research, Dr. Hung is a dedicated mentor and educator, training the next generation of scholars committed to advancing rural health and health equity.
